For my capstone project, I partnered with NASA’s Psyche Mission to design a fully metal clock inspired by their journey to the asteroid 16 Psyche—a metal-rich body that may be the exposed core of an unfinished planet. The mission seeks to understand planetary formation, and my design reflects this by layering materials to symbolize the slow, complex evolution of celestial bodies over time. With no prior experience in metalworking, I challenged myself to learn a new medium from the ground up. Thanks to the guidance of instructors at Phoenix Forge, I safely explored fabrication techniques and transformed my concept into a physical object. The result is a piece that not only marks the passage of time but also mirrors the mission’s deeper pursuit: uncovering the layers that shape worlds.4o
